‘Winning against Ryu Hyun-Jin Ryu → Self-imposed suspension’ Scherzer avoids catastrophic injury by not throwing a ball…”I think I have a rat”

Texas Rangers’ Max Scherzer (39) was not smiling after winning his start against Toronto Blue Jays’ Hyun-jin Ryu (36).

Scherzer picked up his 13th win of the season with 5 1/3 innings of three-hit ball, one walk and two strikeouts against Toronto at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Scherzer, who threw 72 pitches, used a four-seam (32), changeup (12), curve (10), slider (10) and cutter (8) to shut down the Toronto lineup. His fastball topped out at 96.1 miles per hour (154.7 km/h).

Scherzer’s dominant performance gave him the win over Ryu, who allowed three runs on five hits (one home run) and one walk with five strikeouts in six innings. However, in the bottom of the sixth inning, Scherzer complained of discomfort after being hit by a 73.8 mph (118.8 km/h) curveball from Bo Bichette for a strike. After speaking briefly with a trainer, Scherzer made two attempts to throw the ball, both in a windup position, but was unable to do so and walked off the mound.

MLB.com reported, “Scherzer stopped pitching because of right triceps cramps. Texas went on to win 6-3, but attention was still focused on the stricken ace. The team did not immediately provide a diagnosis. Scherzer is scheduled to undergo an MRI on April 14.”

Head coach Bruce Bochy said: “We don’t want to put him at risk of injury. We don’t want to put pressure on him. He said, ‘I’m going to push to get this done quickly,’ and we said, ‘No, we’re not going to take any chances. We’re not going to take any chances.”

“I think it’s a rat, that’s the best way to describe it. I hope so. I’ve been ratty like this before. Then I can go back out there when I’m back to normal. But it was on the mound, and I tried to move around and try to get it loose, but it didn’t work.”

MLB.com notes, “The triceps issue is different from the tightness in Scherzer’s right forearm that he’s been dealing with recently. But because tension and stress tend to travel to areas connected by joints and muscles, Scherzer speculated that the two issues might be related.” “It’s possible that the two areas are related because movement is interconnected. That’s what I think, because when your forearms are tight, the triceps area is more stressed. And, you know, all of a sudden, I couldn’t handle my body properly.”먹튀검증

Scherzer signed a three-year, $130 million contract with the Mets last season. However, the Mets traded Scherzer to Texas at the trade deadline after the team did not perform as well as expected this season.

Scherzer, who is 13-6 with a 3.77 ERA in 27 games (152⅔ innings) this season, has been even better with Texas, going 4-2 with a 3.20 ERA in eight games (45 innings).
