Korea to Participate in Summer Olympics for the First Time in 48 Years

The number of South Korean athletes competing in the Paris Summer Olympics in July is expected to decrease significantly due to a series of sluggish group ball events.

As of Sunday, women’s handball is the only team event in Korea that has qualified for the Paris Olympics.

On top of that, men’s soccer, which has been attending the Olympics since the 1988 Seoul Olympics, will try to advance to the Olympic finals for the 10th consecutive time at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-23 Asian Cup in Qatar in April.

Men’s and women’s hockey and men’s and women’s basketball teams suffered a setback. Women’s volleyball also has a slim chance of advancing to the Olympics.

There is only one medal at stake in the group ball game, but due to the nature of many people joining forces to compete with the world as a team, the group ball game has been a great force in boosting the morale of the Korean team and enhancing the unity of the people.마카오토토도메인

However, at the Paris Olympics, the total number of athletes is likely to decrease accordingly as Korea’s team ball event team has been reduced to an “all-time” level.

According to the number of athletes from the South Korean teams at the recent five summer Olympics, the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games, which had only four teams participating in team ball games (women’s volleyball, handball, hockey, and men’s soccer), had the smallest number of 204.

There was a big difference from the number of athletes (267) at the 2004 Athens and 2008 Beijing Games, where seven teams participated.

At the 2020 Tokyo Games held in 2021, the number of athletes was 232, higher than at the 2016 Rio Games, with six group ball events participating.

The number of official events in the Paris Olympics is 32, and if more quotas are not secured in new events in the future, it is expected that more or less athletes will fly to Paris than at the 2016 Rio Games, where 28 events were held.

If the number of participants does not exceed 200, there is a possibility that it will be the lowest level in 48 years since the 50 players at the 1976 Montreal Games.

Korea dispatched 477 players, the largest number, at the 1988 Seoul Games held on its home turf.

The number of executives will be determined in proportion to the number of players.

Each country’s squad is determined by summing up the number of athletes and officials, and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) distributes executive ADs that allow entry to athletes’ villages or stadiums to about half of the total number of participants. Executive ADs also include ADs of coaches and leaders of respective sports.
