The U.S. Golf Association (USGA) announced on the 2nd (Korea Standard Time) that this year’s U.S. Women’s Open will pay $12 million (16.06 billion won) in total prize money and the name of the tournament will be “Presented by Ali.”

As a result, this year’s U.S. Women’s Open will be held for four days from May 30 at Lancaster Country Club in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. It is also well known that Jeon In-ji won the competition when it was held in 2015.

“By cooperating with Ali, we can continue to develop the U.S. Women’s Open, which was established in 1946,” said Mike Wan, CEO of U.S.GA. “Golf is rapidly emerging, and fans are more diverse than ever,” said Stephanie Marciano, head of sports marketing at Ali.

Along with the announcement of the partnership, Ali recruited Lilia Boo, the world’s No. 1 female golfer, as a sponsor. Boo said, “Ali’s partnership with the USGA will change the game of women’s sports, elevate the U.S. Women’s Open to a greater status, and the players’ skills will be further improved.”

Last year’s U.S. Women’s Open in Pebble Beach had the highest viewership since 2015. It also broke the record for the most-streamed women’s golf event on NBC Sports.

The LPGA tour, which hit the 100 million dollar mark last year, is expected to have a record-breaking prize money party, with 33 regular competitions but 14.5 million dollars raised in prize money. The amount is five times that of the Korean women’s tour. As the attraction of women’s golf has become a major issue in the sports world, new sponsors are introduced every year.

Many Korean golfers are daring to challenge the LPGA tour from qualifying school this year, rather than staying in the domestic arena, because the tour is a tour that enhances their global status. Companies consider such value and become sponsors of the tour.
