The Olympic soccer team, led by Hwang Sun-hong, has been finalized for the first gateway to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The Korea Football Association (KFA) has announced the final 23-man Olympic squad for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-23 Asian Cup, which serves as the first Olympic qualifier.
The 26-man squad, which was announced on May 22, trained in Changwon from Aug. 28 to Sept. 3. Hwang Jae-hwan (Ulsan Hyundai), Kim Joo-chan (Suwon Samsung) and Park Chang-hwan (Seoul Eland), who were called up in place of Bae Joon-ho (Stoke City), were excluded.
The three overseas players, Kwon Hyuk-kyu (Celtic, Scotland), Lee Hyun-joo (Wesenwiesbaden, Germany), and Jeong Sang-bin (Minnesota, USA), were included in the qualifying roster and joined the team on the fourth.
Among the members of the U-20 World Cup Final Four in Argentina, Kim Jun-hong (Gimcheon Sangmu) was named to the men’s soccer team led by Jürgen Klinsmann, with Shin Song-hoon (Gimcheon Sangmu) replacing him. The 2024 AFC U-23 Asian Cup will be held in April next year as the final Asian qualifier for the Paris Olympics. The top three teams from the tournament will qualify directly for the Olympic Games, while the fourth-placed team will have to play a playoff against the fourth-placed team from the African qualifiers for the Olympic berth.
